Mathew Anim Cudjoe: Ghanaian midfielder ready to make Dundee United debut this weekend

Ghanaian youth midfielder, Mathew Anim Cudjoe could finally make his bow for Dundee United on Saturday, over two months after he joined them.

Cudjoe, 18, completed a three-year deal in November last year from Ghanaian lower-tier side Young Apostles after loan stints with Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League.

After several training sessions and playing part in a match-day against Celtic last month, Cudjoe is hoping to make his dream debut when Dundee United travel to play Aberdeen FC on Saturday.

He told the club’s website: “Everything is done so I am ready to play and they (fans) will see me on the pitch doing well. I have to make history here.

“I am here to help the team and myself achieve.”

“I am happy to be here. It is a great club. When I came here everyone welcomed me so I am happy to be here.

“Ghana football and football here, there is a difference. Because football here, is more physical and faster but in Ghana, you can relax and play

“Yes, I prefer playing here because players in Africa want to travel and play in Europe.

“Bayern Munich is a big club and I went there for trials. I learned a lot because they have good and experienced players so it’s not easy to be there and I learned a lot.”

In March 2021, he helped his country lift the U20 African Cup of Nations – playing in all six games throughout the tournament, including the final – in which the Black Satellites defeated Uganda U20 2-0.
