How Ghana could line up against South Africa – Djiku returns
The Black Stars will take on South Africa in the final game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday evening.
Ghana need only a win to secure a place in the final qualifying round of next year’s continental showpiece event to be staged in Qatar.
The West African giants will be without some few players for the crucial game. Jonathan Mensah, Gideon Mensah and Benjamin Tetteh will miss the game due to injuries. Thomas Partey will also miss the game due to injury.
The Arsenal midfielder didn’t feature in the disappointing 1-1 draw against Ethiopia and was expected to fly to Ghana yesterday for the final qualifier against South Africa on Sunday.
However, Partey is still unfit and will not be joining Ghana for the crucial game. AS Roma wonder-kid Felix Afena-Gyan will also be unavailable after he was granted an excuse.
Alexander Djiku returns to the team and is expected to start after missing the game against Ethiopia due to suspension.
Predicted lineup
Milovan Rajevac is expected to make few changes to the team that was held by Ethiopia on Thursday.
England-based goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott is expected to retain his position in goal.
Andy Yiadom, Baba Rahman and Daniel Amartey are expected to retain their position in defense. Alexander Djiku who missed the 1-1 draw against Ethiopia on Thursday due to suspension is expected to come in for Joseph Aidoo.
Baba Iddrisu is expected to retain his position in midfield and will be paired with Mubarak Wakaso. Kamaldeen Sulemana, Mohammed Kudus and Andre Ayew are expected to fill the midfield positions.
Jordan Ayew, who was deployed on the flanks in Ghana’s last two games against Zimbabwe and Ethiopia is expected to start upfront.
The game will kickoff at 19:00 GMT and will be telecasted on GTV Sports Plus. A win for Ghana will see them secure a place in the final qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
