2025/26 GPL: Kotoko beat Karela United in six-goal thriller
1 min read
Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, overpowering Karela United 4–2 in a thrilling Premier League match at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors, determined to bounce back after their CAF Confederation Cup exit, put on a dominant attacking display despite the absence of key forward Albert Amoah, who recently completed a move to Al Ahli Benghazi in Libya.
Kotoko wasted no time asserting their intent as midfielder Hubert Gyau opened the scoring with a fierce strike in the 6th minute. Karela responded quickly through Bless Ege, but Gyau restored Kotoko’s lead with another thunderous effort from distance before Seth Kwadwo powered home a header just before halftime to give the hosts a commanding 3–1 advantage.
After the break, Kotoko continued to dominate possession and territory. Peter Amidu Acquah extended the lead with a close-range finish, effectively putting the game beyond Karela’s reach. The visitors pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but it proved to be only a consolation as Kotoko controlled proceedings until the final whistle.
The victory preserves Kotoko’s unbeaten start to the 2025/26 season. The Porcupine Warriors now have 11 points from five matches and three games in hand, positioning themselves firmly in the title race. They next face a high-stakes showdown with rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday November 9.
