Stephen Appiah – I have ability to be Black Stars coach
1 min readFormer Ghana captain, Stephen ‘Tornado’ Appiah says he has the requisite ability to coach the Black Stars in future.
Appiah’s leadership qualities was enormous during his era as captain of the senior national team. He captained the Black Stars for eight years – leading the team to two successive FIFA World Cups, 2006 and 2010.
The 39-year-old former Juventus midfielder has been under training for his coaching badges as he aims to sit at the dug-out of the Black Stars in the foreseeable future.
He believes that for someone to be a successful manager, the person should understand the players under him.
“In being a manager or a football coach, the most important thing is how to handle the players,” he told Carol Tshabalala of SuperSport.
“You can’t show the players how to play the game. The only thing you can show them is the system that you want to play or the way you want them to move on the pitch.”
Appiah added: “The most important thing is that you have 23 adults that have different egos, and you have to manage them.
“I think I have the ability, being the captain for 8 years, and not having trouble with any player.”
