OFFICIAL: Ghana FA annuls 2019/20 football season
1 min readThe Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has taken a decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season following a marathon meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.
Football activities in the West African country have been frozen since mid-March due to outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government of Ghana placed a ban on social gatherings which forced the Ghana FA to suspend its programmes. The hopes of the Association was dashed as President of the republic of Ghana – Nana Akuffo Addo extended the ban on social gatherings and border closure to July 31, 2020.
This decision was taken by the ruling government to reduce the import of the deadly virus into the county or to curb the horizontal spread of the novel COVID-19 disease.
Since then the GFA have tried to ensure that football resumes but to no avail despite holding talks with the government’s response team on the COVID-19.
The Ghanaian top-flight, Division One League and the Women’s Premier League have all been cancelled.
The Ghanaian top-flight was in week 15 before it was halted.
