Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum provides injury update on Lamptey, Blay and three others
2 min readHead coach of Asante Kotoko,
Prosper Narteh Ogum, has provided update on the status of five players’ injuries, ahead of their Premier League clash with Karela United on Sunday evening.
According to Ogum, defender Augustine Agyapong reported of foot injury during their Wednesday morning training, and he has been directed to go for a scan to assess the degree of injury.
Key player of the side, Richmond Lamptey, who suffered an injury during the club’s preseason, has missed two games for the Porcupine Warriors in the Ghana Premier League.
In addition to Richmond Lamptey, defensive midfielder Justice Blay is yet to make an appearance for Asante Kotoko in the current league campaign due to an injury sustained during preseason practice.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Prosper Narteh Ogum said:
“We all know Richmond Lamptey and Justice Blay are not training. For Blay, he is on a treatment plan and he’s being very positive. We had series of meetings with him for him to go by the treatment plan and he is going by it”
“For Lamptey, he had a hamstring injury during the preseason and you know, it takes time for such injuries to go, you need a lot of rest, medication and a lot of good diet and we are doing that. Fortunately, he joined full scale training this week and even joined the main team for training this morning”
“Ofori [Julius] also had a groin issue and he’s being attended to. This morning too, Augustine Agyapong complained of a pain on the side of the right foot so we asked him to go for an x-ray. Fuseini Issahak also started training this morning and somewhere along the line we had to let him stop.”
Asante Kotoko will host Karela United in week three of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi this weekend.
