Jordan Ayew vows to end Ghana’s 38 years Afcon trophy drought
1 min readGhanaian international Jordan Ayew has vowed to do everything possible to ensure that Ghana ends its 38 years old trophy drought.
The Black Stars of Ghana have not been able to win the Africa Cup of Nations since lifting it in 1982 at Libya. They have, however, made it to three finals – 1992, 2010 and 2015.
Ayew has been superb since joining English Premier League side Crystal Palace and Coach C.K Akonnor will be expecting much from him during the 2022 Afcon if Ghana quality to play in the tournament.
Speaking to Citi FM in Accra, the son of Abedi Pele reiterated his desire to help Ghana break the 38-year-old jinx before he retires from football.
“The only thing I can promise is that I’ll give my three hundred or four hundred per cent to the nation.
“I know it’s only one thing and it is the African Cup of Nations, so we will make sure that when we go back to the next AFCON, we will do our best to perform very well and die for the country,” he concluded.
Ghana is on top of Group C in the qualifiers for the 2022 Afcon with 6 points from 2 games.
Ayew was adjudged as the Best Crystal Palace Player for the season as well as the Players’ Player for the Year. Ayew’s sumptuous goal against West Ham United was also adjudged as the best goal of the season.
