Former deputy coach of Black Stars of Ghana, Hervé Renard has expressed interest in returning to coach Ghana to win an African Cup of Nations trophy.
The trophy has eluded Ghana for the past 38 years despite coming close to winning it on three occasions. Ghana placed second to Ivory Coast in 1992 and 2015, and Egypt in 2010.
Renard, worked as deputy Coach for the Black Stars during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Ghana, where Claude Ley Roy was the head coach.
Despite winning the diadem in two editions – 2012 and 2015, he seems not to be content with his achievement and is willing to return to Ghana to help the senior national team break the jinx.
“Yes I have to come back one day to help one country to win, and that country haven’t won it for a long time and that’s is your country Ghana, I will love to win this feat with the Black Stars,” he told Tv3’s Juliet Bawuah.
He is the first coach to win two Africa Cup of Nations with different countries, having won it in 2012 with Zambia and Ivory Coast in 2015.
He had his first stint with African football when he was appointed by the Ghana Football Association as a deputy to, Claude Le Roy, to lead Ghana to a host and win in the 2008 MTN Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana have won the ultimate four times – 1963,1965, 1978 and 1982.
