Ghanaian youngster Fatawu Issahaku joins English side Leicester City
2 min readGhanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has become the eighth addition to Leicester City’s roster this summer, arriving from Sporting Lisbon.
The highly-regarded 19-year-old has officially signed a contract for a season-long loan from the Portuguese club. Additionally, City reportedly holds the option to make the move permanent in the following summer.
Abdul Fatawu’s arrival marks the eighth signing orchestrated by Enzo Maresca during the current summer transfer window. He joins the ranks alongside Harry Winks, Conor Coady, Callum Doyle, Mads Hermansen, Stephy Mavididi, Cesare Casadei, and Yunus Akgun. This new acquisition further reinforces the club’s depth in wide playing options.
As the season has progressed, City has been relying on academy graduates Wanya Marcal and Kasey McAteer for the right-wing position. Meanwhile, new signing Mavididi has been operating on the left wing. Marcal netted his debut goal for the club during the recent 2-1 victory over Cardiff City, while McAteer accomplished the same feat by scoring both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.
With Fatawu’s inclusion, the spectrum of options expands even further. Notably, he featured in both the Champions League and the Europa League for Sporting during the previous season. Additionally, he was part of the Ghanaian squad that participated in the World Cup held in Qatar last year.
This transfer occurs as Leicester City gears up for a potentially bustling few days before the imminent deadline. The approaching cutoff time for completing deals is 11 pm on Friday, September 1.
