Ghana Premier League clubs accept FIFA COVID-19 Relief Fund disbursement formula used by the Ghana FA

Ghana’s 18- Premier League Clubs have finally accepted the FIFA relief fund disbursement formula use by the embattled Ghana Football Association (GFA) after marathon meeting on Wednesday.

Despite agitating that they deserve more than the amount the GFA allocated to each club in the top-flight and vowed to out-rightly reject the money, cools heads prevailed to allow the 18 clubs to accept the initial $15,000 each given them.

The money from FIFA and CAF, meant to help clubs and the football fraternity ride the financial storm brought by the coronavirus pandemic, had generated controversy with the disbursement of the money.

Some of the clubs said they deserve more from the sharing formula which led to the GFA calling fro a crisis meeting with the stakeholders to address the issue.

There were forecasts for a raucous meeting with the GFA over the sharing formula of the money with even punters and even highly rated casinos like captain cooks even venturing to take odds on the outcome of the meeting.

However the expected fiery ending to the meeting was not to be as the GFA played the cards of admitting its fault in not consulting the clubs before reaching the decision on the sharing formula.

That paved the way for the clubs to hold their fire and accept the initial amount tabled by the GFA to help solve the issue amiably.

The clubs finally took the decision to accept the money after a marathon meeting with the leadership of the FA on Wednesday, GHANAsocernet.com can exclusively report.

FA boss Kurt Okraku and General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo as well other Executive Council members Dr Toni Aubynn, Nana Sarfo Oduro and Samuel Anim Addo attended the crunch meeting.

The clubs had initially raised concerns as they were unhappy with the amount allocated to them by the GFA. The FA announced that $270,000 of the total $1.8 million will be shared amongst the clubs.

The top-flight clubs felt they deserved more, however, following the meeting they have now agreed to accept the amount allocated to them. This means each Premier League club will receive $15,000.
