Ghana and AS Monaco youth star Eric Ayiah opens up on how he felt after meeting Juventus Star Cristiano Ronaldo
2 min readFormer Ghana Under-17 captain, Eric Ayiah has indicated that he found it surreal after meeting Portuguese and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time.
Ayiah – who captained the Black Satellites of Ghana during the 2017 Fifa U-17 World Cup – joined French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco on a five-year contract from Ghanaian lower-tier side Charity Stars FC.
He is managed by one of the best football agents in the world – Jorge Mendes, who also manages the former Real Madrid star. Other football personalities under the same umbrella include Tottenham Hotspur trainer Jose Mourinho, Diego Costa, among others.
The budding forward says it was awesome meeting Ronaldo.
“It was a dream come through when I got the opportunity to meet Cristiano Ronaldo. I never imagined meeting him in my life,” he told Kumasi-based Wontumi TV.
“I have never been on the bench since I broke through the second team of Monaco.”
The 20-year-old also recounted the struggles he had to go through before and after the World Cup held in India, expressing his gratitude to God.
“It has not been easy for me. I grew up without my biological parents. They are no more, but God has pushed me through the ranks by captaining the U-17 without paying anything to a coach and now at As Monaco. God has really done a lot for me and I’m grateful,” he mentioned.
He is currently in Ghana for holidays due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of the French Ligue 1 by the French Football Federation.
