Forget about Joseph Esso – Abednego Tetteh on Esso’s Hearts Of Oak exit
2 min readHearts Of Oak striker, Abednego Tetteh has called on the club to forget about the departure of star striker Joseph Esso and focus on the remaining players in the team.
According to the former Bechem United talisman, Esso’s exit is a blessing to the young players in the Rainbow Club. He believes the players will now get regular playing time to showcase their talents.
Esso failed to extend his contract with the Ghanaian Giants after his initial three-year contract expired. The former Ebusua Dwarfs forward was only ready to renew by just a year which the club disagreed.
Reports indicate the Supporters wing – National Chapters Committee – succeeded in convincing Esso to extend by two years but a renegotiation between the player and the club’s management collapsed again, leading to the release of the player.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Hello FM, Tetteh asserted that the player’s decision should be respected since he is a grown-up.
“Whatever happens, is good. At times we don’t understand why certain things happen in this world. Esso is not a child, he’s a grown-up and knows what is good for him. If he feels like playing for Hearts again, that’s good or travelling abroad, is also fine, to him. We all hope to progress in life.
“I think we should all forget about the issue. Will we call him to come and play if he dies? We should take it like we have lost something that we’ll not get again and focus on the league when football returns.
The lanky forward signed for Hearts Of Oak in January but is yet to play a game for the capital-based club due to the truncation of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League.
Tetteh was a member of the Bechem United team that clinched the MTN FA Cup in 2016 before trekking to play for Sudanese giants Al Hilal.
He has also played in Ethiopia for Jimma Aba Buna before returning to Sudan to join Al Hilal Obeid.
Tetteh also played for Indian sides Real Kashmir and TRAU.
