Tony Yeboah in seventh heaven over Leeds United return to Premier League

The Ghana legend has congratulated his former club for earning promotion to the English Premier League after sixteen years.

Former Leeds United striker Tony Yeboah has showered encomium on Marcelo Bielsa and his charges after securing promotion to the English top-flight league on Friday.

The Elland Road Stadium outfit return to the Premier League was confirmed after West Bromwich Albion suffered a 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town.

Yeboah featured for the Peacocks lads between 1995-97 where he made 47 appearances, scoring 24 times for the club.

“It’s a big news for everyone who supports Leeds United. I can’t hide my happiness after reading on the club’s promotion to the English Premier League,” Yeboah told Kumasi-based Angel FM

“The journey hasn’t been easy for the club in the last sixteen years….We are grateful to God for gaining a slot in the Premier League next season”

“Leeds United is a big club in England with amazing fans that make players feel special at the Elland Road.” he added.

“They [fans] are crazy for the club and I can’t forget the memories.”

Yeboah also urged the club to augment the squad for their next season’s English Premier League campaign.

“There should be additions to the current squad to maintain their status in the Premier League. I watched most of their matches in the Championship”

“I know the Leeds United board of directors will add some quality to the team”

In 1995, Yeboah joined Leeds United from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for £3.4 million after a remarkable stint with the German club where he scored 68 goals in 123 matches.

The 54-year-old is still revered as a cult hero for the Yorkshire club due to a series of memorable goals he scored.

His volley against Liverpool and his strike versus Wimbledon in the 1995–96 season were among his most notable goals, and he was a regular feature in Goal of the Month in the Premier League.

Yeboah’s goal against AFC Wimbledon was voted the Goal of the 1995/96 season.

He announced his retirement from football in 2002.
