Ex-Ashgold defender Yusif Mubarik confirms talks with Asante Kotoko

Former AshantiGold defender Yusif Mubarik has confirmed that he is in talks with Asante Kotoko to land a deal.

Reports emerged Tuesday morning that Kotoko is keen on signing the out-of-contract Yusif Mubarik on a free transfer to augment their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

The defender could not renew his contract with Ashantigold as the Miners could not meet the demands of the player.

Asante Kotoko has initiated talks with the defender to land his signature and the player has given the coach his word, according to Oyerepa FM report on Tuesday morning.

And, speaking to Oyerepa FM Tuesday afternoon, Mubarik disclosed that talks are in advance to join the Porcupine Warriors.

“It is true I have talked to Kotoko. I am no more an Ashanti Gold player. In fact, I have given them my word that I will play for them, ” he told Oyerepa FM.

“I don’t fear competition. I’m ever ready to fight for a position and I know everything will be successful.”

The former Liberty Professionals featured in 13 games for the four-time Ghana Premier League winners in the truncated 2019-20 season.

Kotoko already have Abdul Ganiu, Habib Mohammed, Empem Dacosta, Wahab Adams and out-of-contract Emmanuel Agyemang Badu in central defence.
