Daniel Amartey out of Ghana’s final 2023 AFCON qualifier against Central African Republic after suffering fresh injury
1 min readCoach Chris Hughton faces a significant setback as Black Stars center-back Daniel Amartey is poised to sit out the upcoming match against the Central African Republic due to a fresh injury setback.
Daniel Amartey, the defender currently plying his trade in Turkey, has recently sustained a new injury and is anticipated to remain sidelined for at least the next two weeks.
This injury was evidently acquired during a training session, following his full-time participation in their previous competitive match against Dynamo Kiev.
Amartey’s team, Besiktas JK, had their league clash with Adana Demirspor postponed over the weekend, which means he will not be available for the crucial return leg fixture against the Ukrainian giants at Vodafone Park tonight. The outcome of this tie could significantly impact their bid to advance into the 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League.
Unfortunately, the 28-year-old defender now joins the growing list of injured players in the Black Stars squad, including fellow center-back Mohammed Salisu, Gideon Mensah, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Jojo Wollacott, Majeed Ashimeru, and Salis Abdul Samed, who are also unavailable due to injuries.
On a more positive note, Baba Rahman and Antoine Semenyo will be available this time after missing a previous match against Madagascar due to injuries.
Amartey is expected to embark on a speedy rehabilitation process with the aim of returning to full fitness after the international break, in time to face Trabzonspor on September 17.
