Coach Kwasi Appiah clarifies captaincy rotational policy comments

1 min read

Former Black Stars coach James Kwasi Appiah, has elucidated his comments on the captaincy rotational policy comments, saying it was not meant for now but for future purposes should the national team continuously face captaincy problems.

The 61-year old ex-Ghana captain’s comment on Happy FM, was taken out of context as some online portals publication claimed he has advised current Black Stars coach CK Akonnor to rotate the team’s captaincy.

But speaking to ATL FM in Cape Coast, the 2014 World Cup gaffer, explained that Swansea forward Andre Ayew remains the Black Stars captain and should be left alone to lead the team.

“I was a not saying Ghana should adopt the captaincy rotational policy now since it will make no sense because Andre Ayew has just been handed over the arm band,”

”I was suggesting that if there are captaincy challenges in the team in future then we can try the rotational policy, may be it could work for us.

He further said “I was not advising the current head coach as purported in the media to change the captain but I was suggesting an option should we find ourselves in the same soup in future as country.”

Appiah thinks that change is difficult but some countries have tried it and there is nothing wrong trying a new thing if the old system keeps failing you.
