2023 Caf CL: Dominant Medeama defeat Horoya to take a huge advantage into 2nd leg

1 min read

Medeama SC secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Guinea powerhouse Horoya FC in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the 2023/24 Caf Champions League.

An improved second half by the Yellow and Mauves saw them score three goals in the second half after a goalless draw in the first stanza.

Coach Adotey’s charges were unable to find the back of the net in the first half despite piling pressure on the visitors as goalkeeper Moussa Camara thwarted most of their efforts from entering the posts.

After recess, the Ghanaian champions dominated the exchanges, scoring three times before Horoya reduced the deficit by one in a few minutes to end the encounter.

Nana Kofi Babil put Medeama in front in the 48th minute with a spectacular strike in the box.

Defender Nurudeen Abdulai rose up to connect with a high-flying corner kick to grab Medea Ma’s second goal on the day, and before three minutes, Kofi Asmah scored a screamer to give the home side a 3-0 lead.

However, with a minute to end proceedings, the Matambas scored through Mohamed Lamine Fofana to reduce the deficit.

The three minutes added time did not change the scoreline as the game ended 3-1.

The winner of this tie will advance to the group stage, and Medeama is hoping to achieve this feat for the first time in their history.
