2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season to be played in Zones – Reports

The Executive Council (EXCO) of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) are considering 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season to be played in Northern and Southen zones, according to reports.

The planning for the new season has begun after the GFA had made the big Covid-19 enforced decision to cancel the 2019/20. Additionally, the player transfer window has also been identified.

The Ghana FA has suggested that the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League campaign is likely to start in October this year.

However, the Executive Council according to Oyerepa FM sources have proposed that the new season should be divided into two zones (Southern and Northern) sector due to the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

If this happens, it will be the second time the Ghana premier league will be played in zones after the 2004/2005 season where Hearts of Oak won the championship after pipping Kotoko by a lone goal at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Normalization Committee Special Competitions (Tier 1 and Tier 2) in 2019 was played in two zones which were won by Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold respectively.

The next football transfer window will be opened from Saturday, August 15, 2020, and end on Saturday, October 31, 2020, in accordance with the GFA regulations.
